Re: Zion,bryce,capital reef. You may want to consider going to Capitol Reef first to get the long drive out of the way at the beginning of the trip. Then go to Bryce via Scenic ByWay Highway 12. Finish up at Zion. You'll have a 3 hour drive back to Las Vegas from Zion and gain an hour entering Nevada.Re: weather in October. We visited Utah last October 2011 towards the end of the month, ended up in Zion around the start of November...there was a really cold front hitting Utah then, so days were so cold around 30f in the mornings to 40-50f during the day. The ruts are pretty deep in some areas, but there are some sedans that make it all the way to the parking lot. Takes about an hour and 30 mins to get to and is fairly level. The others are first come first serve. Doubt you wil need reservations in December. Be prepared for possible overnight temps close to freezing. Leave Bryce at 5:00pm to 5:30pm back to Las Vegas.

Zion doesn't close because of flash flooding, but the Narrows might. That is only one hike within Zion, there are many other trails you can hike that don't have any issues with flooding. Also, Taylor Creek is located in the Kolob section of Zion, which is miles away from the main area of Zion National Park.
